A.M Microneedling in Malaysia

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment designed to support the skin’s natural renewal process and may be considered for concerns such as acne marks, uneven skin texture and early signs of skin ageing. At A.M Clinic, every treatment begins with a personalised skin assessment by an LCP-certified aesthetic physician to determine whether microneedling or another treatment, such as Pico Laser or a chemical peel, may be more appropriate for your individual skin concerns.

Who May Be Suitable for Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure in which very fine sterile needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin. These small, deliberate injuries prompt the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin. It is used to address skin texture, enlarged pores, acne scarring and early signs of ageing. Results vary between individuals.

Microneedling may be suitable for adults looking to improve skin texture or address certain skin concerns following an individual assessment by an aesthetic physician.

Depending on your skin condition and treatment goals, microneedling may be considered for people with:

  • Mild to moderate acne scarring
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines and early signs of skin ageing
  • Dull or dehydrated skin
  • Mild skin laxity as part of a broader treatment plan

Suitability depends on your medical history, current skin condition and treatment goals. During your consultation, your physician will determine whether microneedling or another treatment option may be more appropriate.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling uses a medical-grade device with sterile, single-use needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This process is intended to encourage the skin’s natural healing response and may support improvements in skin quality over time.

During treatment

  • Sterile, single-use needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin.
  • The skin’s natural healing response stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.
  • Improvements in skin texture, acne marks and fine lines develop gradually as the skin renews.
  • Depending on your skin concerns, your physician may recommend a series of treatments.

Your treatment is personalised

  • Needle depth is selected based on the treatment area, skin condition and your individual treatment goals.
  • Your LCP-certified aesthetic physician determines whether microneedling or another treatment is more appropriate following your consultation.

Enhanced treatment protocol

  • At A.M Clinic, our microneedling protocol incorporates electroporation technology, which may improve the delivery of selected topical solutions immediately after treatment.
  • Your physician will recommend the most appropriate treatment protocol based on your individual skin assessment.

Microneedling with Exosomes, Skin Boosters and Biostimulators

The micro-channels created during needling remain open for a short window. What is applied during that window is a clinical decision, and it is where much of the current interest in regenerative aesthetics sits.

  • Exosomes

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that act as signalling carriers between cells, transporting proteins, lipids and genetic material. Applied topically over freshly needled skin and assisted by electroporation, they are intended to support the skin’s own repair signalling. Exosome products used in a clinical setting are laboratory-produced and batch-tested, which means their composition is standardised rather than varying from patient to patient.

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP is prepared from a sample of your own blood, spun to concentrate the platelet fraction, and applied or injected. Because it is autologous, its growth factor concentration reflects your own physiology on the day. Some patients prefer it for that reason. Others prefer to avoid the venepuncture.

  • Skin boosters and biostimulators

Hyaluronic acid boosters address dermal hydration. Biostimulators are intended to prompt the skin’s own collagen production over a longer horizon. Both are delivered by injection rather than by needling, though a physician may sequence them within the same treatment plan.

What Skin Concerns May Microneedling Help Address?

Following an individual assessment, microneedling may be considered as part of a personalised treatment plan for selected skin concerns. Whether microneedling is appropriate depends on your skin condition, treatment goals and medical assessment.

Microneedling may be considered for concerns such as:

  • Acne marks and mild acne scarring, including selected atrophic (indented) scars.
  • Uneven skin texture, such as rough or irregular skin.
  • Enlarged-looking pores, where improving overall skin texture may reduce their appearance.
  • Fine lines and early signs of skin ageing, including changes in skin texture associated with ageing.
  • Mild pigmentation concerns, where appropriate following physician assessment.
  • Dull or tired-looking skin that may benefit from improved skin renewal.

Depending on your assessment, your physician may recommend microneedling alone or as part of a broader treatment plan. In some cases, another treatment may be more appropriate for your individual concerns.

When Should You Consider Microneedling?

A consultation may be appropriate if you have ongoing skin concerns that have not improved with your usual skincare routine or if you would like professional advice on improving your skin quality.

A consultation may be appropriate if you experience:

  • Acne marks or mild acne scarring.
  • Uneven skin texture.
  • Enlarged-looking pores.
  • Fine lines or early signs of skin ageing.
  • Dull or tired-looking skin.
  • Mild pigmentation concerns.

During your consultation, your LCP-certified aesthetic physician will assess your skin, discuss your concerns and explain whether microneedling or another treatment option may be appropriate for your individual needs.

Potential Benefits of Microneedling

Depending on your individual skin condition and treatment goals, microneedling may offer several potential benefits, including:

  • Supporting the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production.
  • Improving the appearance of uneven skin texture.
  • Softening the appearance of selected acne marks and mild acne scars.
  • Reducing the appearance of enlarged pores.
  • Helping support overall skin smoothness and radiance.
  • Supporting skin renewal as part of a personalised treatment plan.

Treatment outcomes vary between individuals. Your physician will discuss the expected benefits, limitations and the number of treatment sessions that may be appropriate for your skin concerns during your consultation.

Still deciding which treatment fits your skin?

Our physicians will assess your skin and talk you through the options, including the ones that are not microneedling.

What Happens During the Procedure

  • Cleansing and disinfection of the treatment area.
  • Application of a medical-grade topical anaesthetic cream, typically left for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Removal of the anaesthetic and a second disinfection pass.
  • The physician unseals a new, single-use needle cartridge in front of you and fits it to the device.
  • The needling pass itself, generally 20 to 30 minutes for a full face, with depth adjusted by region.
  • Application of the selected serum, booster or exosome preparation, assisted by electroporation.
  • A soothing mask or calming preparation, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen before you leave.

Most patients describe the sensation as a light scratching or vibration rather than a sharp pain. Total chair time is usually 60 to 90 minutes once the numbing period is included.

Microneedling Cost in Malaysia

The cost of microneedling in Malaysia varies depending on factors such as the treatment area, the technology used, the number of sessions recommended and whether additional topical solutions or combination treatments are included.

As a general guide, microneedling treatments in Malaysia typically range from approximately RM500 to RM1,500 per session, although prices may vary between clinics and individual treatment plans.

Following your consultation, your LCP-certified aesthetic physician will recommend a personalised treatment plan and provide a transparent cost breakdown before you decide whether to proceed.

Recovery and Aftercare in Malaysia’s Climate

Generic aftercare advice does not account for a tropical climate. Heat, humidity, sweat, repeated transitions between air-conditioning and outdoor air, and a UV index that regularly sits in the very high band all affect how freshly needled skin behaves. The guidance below is adapted for those conditions and is a general framework only. Your physician will give you instructions specific to your treatment.

First 24 hours

  • Expect redness resembling mild sunburn, with a sensation of warmth or tightness. Some pinpoint bleeding or minor bruising may occur.
  • Do not touch the face with unwashed hands. The micro-channels are still closing.
  • No makeup. No sunscreen application over the treated area unless your physician has specifically advised otherwise. Stay indoors and out of direct sun.
  • Cleanse only with the preparation your clinic provides, using cool water and clean hands.
  • Avoid exercise, sauna, steam and anything that raises core temperature. Sweat over open micro-channels is an infection route.

Days 2 to 3

  • Redness usually settles. Mild flaking or dryness is common as the skin renews.
  • Reintroduce broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen and reapply every two hours when outdoors. This is the single most important step for pigment-prone skin.
  • Makeup may generally be reintroduced after 48 hours, using clean brushes. If you commute by motorcycle, consider a full-face visor rather than reapplying makeup in humidity.
  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, vitamin C at high concentration and physical scrubs.
  • Return to light exercise only once redness has settled. Shower promptly afterwards.

Days 4 to 14

  • Resume your normal routine gradually. Retinoids and acids are typically reintroduced from around day seven, subject to your physician’s instruction.
  • Continue diligent photoprotection. Wear a wide-brimmed hat outdoors. Seek shade between 11am and 4pm.
  • Collagen remodelling continues quietly beneath the surface for weeks. Visible change, where it occurs, is progressive rather than immediate.
  • Contact the clinic promptly if you notice spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, fever or pain that increases rather than decreases. These are not expected and warrant assessment.

Risks and Possible Side Effects

Microneedling is generally well tolerated when performed by a qualified medical practitioner, but like any medical procedure, it carries potential risks.

Possible temporary side effects include:

  • Redness
  • Mild swelling
  • Dryness
  • Bruising
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Temporary post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Infection (uncommon)

Your physician will explain these risks during consultation and discuss whether Microneedling is suitable for your skin before treatment proceeds.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

Does microneedling hurt?

A medical-grade topical anaesthetic is applied for 20 to 30 minutes before the procedure begins. Most patients describe the sensation as a light scratching or vibration rather than a sharp pain. Areas over bone, such as the forehead and along the jawline, tend to feel more pronounced. If pain is a particular concern for you, raise it at consultation. Our physicians will adjust the approach accordingly.

How many microneedling sessions will I need?

Most treatment plans discussed at A.M Clinicinvolve three to six sessions spaced approximately four to six weeks apart. The number depends on your concern, the depth of any scarring, how your skin responds and your physician’s assessment. Deeper scarring generally requires a longer series. Your physician will discuss a realistic plan at consultation rather than committing you to a fixed package in advance.

How much does microneedling cost in Malaysia?

Published market ranges across Malaysian clinics sit at roughly RM400 to RM1,200 per session for standard microneedling, rising for radiofrequency systems or when adjuncts such as PRP or exosomes are added. A.M Clinic does not publish fixed prices, because the appropriate protocol cannot be determined before a physician has assessed your skin. An itemised cost is provided in writing at your complimentary consultation.

Is microneedling safe for Asian skin?

Microneedling generally carries a favorable safety profile on Asian skin because it is a mechanical rather than a light-based procedure, so it does not target melanin. That said, needling that is too deep, performed over active inflammation, or followed by sun exposure can itself trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Suitability depends on individual assessment, and in some cases a period of skin preparation is advised before the first session.

What is the difference between microneedling and a microneedling facial?

A microneedling facial in a salon setting is typically superficial, performed by a beauty therapist, and works largely at the level of exfoliation and product absorption. Medical microneedling is performed in a registered healthcare facility by a physician holding a Letter of Credentialing and Privileging from the Ministry of Health, using a sterile single-use cartridge at a depth selected for each area of the face.

How long does it take to see results from microneedling?

Collagen remodelling is a gradual biological process rather than an immediate cosmetic effect. Where change occurs, patients typically notice it progressively over the weeks following a session, with the cumulative effect of a series becoming apparent over several months. Results vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Can microneedling remove acne scars completely?

No treatment removes acne scarring completely. microneedling may help improve the appearance of rolling and boxcar scars over a series of sessions by encouraging collagen deposition. Ice-pick scars respond less predictably and may be better addressed by other techniques. Your physician will assess your scar morphology and give you an honest view of what is realistic, including where combined treatment is likely to be needed.

What is the downtime after microneedling?

Most patients experience redness resembling mild sunburn for one to three days, sometimes with mild flaking as the skin renews. Makeup is generally avoided for the first 48 hours. Exercise, sauna and steam are avoided until redness settles. In Malaysia’s climate, disciplined sunscreen use from day two onwards matters more than it would in a temperate country.

Can microneedling be combined with exosomes or PRP?

Yes, and this is frequently discussed. The micro-channels created during needling remain briefly open, which allows a topical regenerative preparation to be delivered into the tissue, assisted at A.M Clinic by an electroporation system. Whether an adjunct is appropriate for you, and which one, is determined at consultation. Many patients are treated without one.

Can I have microneedling if I have active acne?

Generally no, not over areas of active inflammatory or cystic acne. Needling across active lesions risks spreading bacteria and worsening inflammation. Your physician may recommend settling the acne first, potentially with a different treatment, and revisiting microneedling for the residual scarring afterwards.

Is microneedling suitable during pregnancy?

Microneedling is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding at A.M Clinic. Please inform us if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, at the time of booking rather than on the day.

Do I need a consultation before booking microneedling?

Yes. A.M Clinic does not book microneedling without a prior consultation with a physician. Consultation is complimentary at all three locations and involves a medical history review, a skin assessment and a written treatment plan. It is entirely normal for a consultation to conclude that a different treatment would serve you better.
