Fat freezing is a non-invasive procedure that may be considered for certain individuals following a medical assessment. Common temporary effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling and reduced sensation in the treated area. The duration of these effects varies between individuals and will be discussed during consultation.
There is also a rare, delayed complication that many Malaysian clinic pages do not mention: paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), where the treated fat gradually grows firmer and larger instead of shrinking. It is uncommon — the device manufacturer’s figure is around 1 in 20,000 treatment cycles — but independent studies suggest it may be underreported and somewhat higher, and it does not resolve on its own. Newer-generation devices appear to lower the risk. We mention it because informed consent means knowing the rare risks, not only the benefits.
During consultation, your doctor will discuss potential side effects and risks, review your medical history and assess whether fat freezing is an appropriate option for your concerns.
